Flamboyant Gamine

Before getting into the details, it's worth noting that David Kibbe (the creator of the 13 Kibbe types) has repeatedly said that a clothing type doesn't belong to a specific type. Rather, it's how you integrate it into an outfit that makes it appropriate. The aim is not to tell you how you should dress, it's simply a guide, a starting point when you're feeling a little lost. From there, you can fine-tune your clothing style. It's also important to point out that Yang (sharp, angular, straight, long) is often described as "masculine" and Yin (rounded, soft, curved, short) as "feminine". This is totally incorrect and only serves to further skew our view of different morphologies. They're just two different femininities.

I've taken the liberty of modernising and softening some of the recommendations, so I suggest you refer to his book Metamorphosis, if you want more authentic information.

A slight deviation is always possible and shouldn't be a cause for concern as long as it doesn't upset the overall balance. If this is a new subject for you, I suggest you read the Glossary of Morphologies before starting.

The Flamboyant Gamine woman is a combination of Yang and Yin, with a strong Yang bias (60% Gamine + 40% Dramatic).

The facial features are angular or prominent, such as the nose, cheekbones and jaw. The eyes are moderate to large. The lips are moderate to thin. The skin on the cheeks tend to be taut.

The Flamboyant Gamine is generally average height to small (up to 5.6ft / 1m70). The vertical line is moderate to long (distance from shoulder line to knees). The Flamboyant Gamine woman often looks taller than she is.

The body is slender and angular, generally rectangular, with a defined musculature. The shoulders are square and pointed. The bust and the hips are straight and narrow. The waist is straight or slightly defined. The arms and legs are long. The hands and feet are small, square and sometimes wide.

When overweight, the weight usually accumulates around the waist and hips.

The Flamboyant Gamine woman doesn't have an hourglass figure. She doesn't have a broad bone structure. She doesn't have very small, round features. She doesn't look very tall.

Clothing Lines

The clothing lines should be geometric and structured. The emphasis should be placed on the shoulder line, with clean edges.

The tops should be fitted with regular angles and straight lines. The necklines should be clean and angular, like V-necks and narrow turtlenecks. The jumpers should be structured, they can either follow the silhouette or fall straight down. They should not be too long, ideally reaching to the waist.

The trousers should be straight or form-fitting, with a clean, compact silhouette. The ideal length is at the ankle. They can be shorter if the hem is tapered.

The skirts and dresses should be straight or narrow. They can be short or mid-length to mid-calf. Sometimes they can flare out from the hips if the top is fitted.

The jackets and coats should be short or medium-length and structured at the shoulders.

Textiles, Colours and Patterns

The fabrics should be moderately thick, with soft textures, such as smooth knits, silks and velvets. Heavier fabrics can be worn in jackets and coats.

In general, prefer combinations of different textures and colours in your outfits.

Opt for moderate-sized, geometric patterns, such as checks and stripes.

Accessories

The accessories should be moderate to small, clean and geometric.

The shoes should be angular and fitted, with small or moderate heels.

The bags should be proportioned and have a compact shape.

The belts should be slim with geometric buckles.

The jewellery should be small and fine, geometric or asymmetrical.

Hairstyles and Make-up

The hairstyles should be structured with clear contours. The bangs should be relatively short, straight or asymmetrical. Short haircuts are ideal, but medium-length hair can work.

The make-up should be clean and graphic, highlighting the eyes or lips.
