Light Summer
The Colour Seasons are a starting point when we don't know which colours suit us best. We're all unique. The aim is to experiment and find what we like. If you don't like the palette recommended to you, trust yourself and wear the colours in which you feel most comfortable. These are just suggestions that you should adapt to your own tastes.
If this is a new subject for you, I suggest you refer to the Colour Glossary before starting.
The primary colour aspect of the overall appearance is light, and the secondary aspect is cool.
Skin
The skin has a neutral or cool undertone. The skin tones range from fair to medium.
Eyes
The eyes are light and greyish. They have cool undertones. They can be grey, blue or green.
Hair
The hair has cool tones with ashy highlights. It can be blond or light brown. Many Light Summers had blond hair as children, but it turned brown as they grew older. A medium brown is also common among non-white ethnicities.
Contrast
There is little contrast between the skin, hair and eyes. The features blend together. For non-white ethnicities, their features are lighter in relation to their origin.
Comparison
Light Summer and Light Spring are sometimes difficult to tell apart, as both have very light features and a low contrast. What sets them apart are the cool (greyish) tones of Light Summer, compared with the warm (golden) tones of Light Spring.
Colour Palette
The colours in your palette tend towards the cool end, which means they contain more shades of blue than yellow. Even your yellows have a bluish base.
The colours are low value, which means that there are a lot of light colours and very few dark colours. You have a few medium colours, but these are support colours for the lighter shades.
The colours are neither very muted nor very bright.
This palette doesn't represent all the colours that would suit you, there are many more. These are the main ones.
Neutrals
The neutrals in your palette are greyish and slightly pinkish. Your light neutrals are greys and taupes. Your dark neutrals are anthracites and blues.
Black and white are not part of your palette, as they are too harsh for your colouring. If you wear them frequently, mix them with the soft, colourful colours in your palette.
Sister Palettes
Light Summer lies between Light Spring and True Summer. Compared to Light Spring, the colours are cooler, softer and slightly darker. Compared to True Summer, the colours are lighter, brighter and slightly warmer.
Depending on where you fall on the Light Summer spectrum, you can borrow certain colours from your "sister palettes". If you're leaning more towards Light Spring, opt for the palette's cooler colours. If you're leaning towards True Summer, choose the palette's lightest colours.
Colour Combinations
You can combine all the colours in your palette with each other, but some combinations work better than others. The best ones are those that have the same level of contrast naturally present in your appearance.
Light Summer has a low contrast, so your colour combinations should be too. The easiest way is to combine a medium colour with a slightly lighter colour. You can also create a hue contrast with two colours that are opposite each other on the colour wheel, such as violet and green, as long as they are of the same value. Another way is to combine a neutral colour with a bright one.
Try to avoid combinations of only dark or dull colours, as these will detract from your naturally muted appearance.
Not Ideal Colours
The dark, warm and very saturated colours are not ideal, since Light Summer is light and cool.
Warm, dark colours, such as rich browns and orange-reds, will be too harsh against your cool, light colouring. Highly saturated colours, such as golden yellows and bright oranges, will clash with your muted appearance.
Patterns
Your best patterns are those that contain light and cool colours. Choose ones with low-contrast elements.
Metals
Your best metals are light silver and white gold. Gold and rose gold are also suitable, as long as they are light. Prefer luminous finishes to matte or antique ones.
Complexion
The complexion products should have neutral or pink undertones. Prefer matte or satin finishes.
Highlighters tend not to be ideal, as they look less natural on a muted complexion.
Bronzers
Depending on your skin tone, bronzers can enhance your complexion. It should have pink tones. Prefer matte or satin finishes.
Blushs
The best blush colours are light pinks, mauves and peaches. The least flattering colours are bright and warm. Prefer satin finishes.
Lipsticks
The best lipstick colours are light pinks, mauves, pinkish reds. The least flattering colours are dark and warm. Prefer satin finishes.
Eyeshadows
Your neutral eyeshadow colours are : taupes, greys and light browns. Your colour accents are : light pinks, mauves, purples and blues. The least flattering colours are dark and warm. Prefer satin finishes.
Mascaras & Eyeliners
The best mascara colours are cool browns and greys. Your neutral eyeliner colours are taupes and greys. Your colour accents are pinks, purples and blues.
Light Makeup
A light makeup should reproduce the natural characteristics of your appearance. The complexion should be fresh and soft, with a little blush. Prefer light eye makeup and rosy lips.
Defined Makeup
A defined makeup should enhance the natural features of your appearance. You can simply intensify your lips and/or eyes. The complexion should remain fresh and soft.
