Theatrical Romantic

Before getting into the details, it's worth noting that David Kibbe (the creator of the 13 Kibbe types) has repeatedly said that a clothing type doesn't belong to a specific type. Rather, it's how you integrate it into an outfit that makes it appropriate. The aim is not to tell you how you should dress, it's simply a guide, a starting point when you're feeling a little lost. From there, you can fine-tune your clothing style. It's also important to point out that Yang (sharp, angular, straight, long) is often described as "masculine" and Yin (rounded, soft, curved, short) as "feminine". This is totally incorrect and only serves to further skew our view of different morphologies. They're just two different femininities. 

I've taken the liberty of modernising and softening some of the recommendations, so I suggest you refer to his book Metamorphosis, if you want more authentic information. 

A slight deviation is always possible and shouldn't be a cause for concern as long as it doesn't upset the overall balance. If this is a new subject for you, I suggest you read the Glossary of Morphologies before starting.


The Theatrical Romantic woman is a Yin type, with a Yang undercurrent (70% Romantic + 30% Dramatic).

The facial features are small, delicate and slightly pointed, such as the nose, cheekbones and jaw. The eyes are moderate to large. The lips are moderate to full. The skin on the cheeks tend to be slightly soft.

The Theatrical Romantic is generally average height (up to 5.5ft / 1.67 m) to small. The vertical line is moderate to short (distance from shoulder line to knees).

The bone structure is slightly angular, especially around the shoulders. The body is delicate and voluptuous, though narrow and small. It has curves, especially at the bust and hips. The waist is defined, creating an hourglass figure. The arms and legs are proportionate or small and slightly fleshy. The hands and feet are small and may be slightly wide or narrow.

When overweight, the silhouette will remain in the shape of an hourglass. The arms, thighs and face will become fleshier.

The Theatrical Romantic woman doesn't look tall. She doesn't have a broad bone structure. She doesn't have a straight silhouette with no defined waist. She doesn't just have very fine, small features.


Clothing Lines

The clothing lines should accentuate the hourglass silhouette while adding angular details.

The tops should be delicate and fitted with defined shoulders. The necklines should be clean or draped. The jumpers should hug the silhouette. They should not be too long, ideally reaching to the waist.

The trousers should be straight or form-fitting, with a soft, compact silhouette. The ideal length is at the ankle. They can be shorter if the hem is tapered.

The skirts and dresses should be flowing, flared and fitted at the waist. The length should be just above the knee or mid-calf. If they is long, it should be flared. If short, tapered.

The jackets and coats should be short or medium-length, fitted at the waist, with structured shoulders.


Textiles, Colours and Patterns

The fabrics should be moderately thick or light, so they can drape and follow your curves. The textures should be soft, such as smooth knits, silks and velvets.

You can combine different textures or colours, but this should not disrupt the overall fluidity and softness of the silhouette.

Prefer small, delicate patterns, such as rounded shapes and floral motifs.


Accessories

The accessories should be small, rounded and feminine (not childish).

The shoes should be fitted, with tapered or open toes. The heels should be small or moderate.

The bags should be small and rounded, simple or richly decorated.

The belts should be supple and thin, with rounded buckles.

The jewellery should be small, delicate and rounded.


Hairstyles and Make-up

The hairstyles should be neat, with delicate curls framing the face. Medium-length cuts are ideal, but long hair can work.

The make-up should be sophisticated, highlighting the eyes or lips.
