Soft Gamine

Before getting into the details, it's worth noting that David Kibbe (the creator of the 13 Kibbe types) has repeatedly said that a clothing type doesn't belong to a specific type. Rather, it's how you integrate it into an outfit that makes it appropriate. The aim is not to tell you how you should dress, it's simply a guide, a starting point when you're feeling a little lost. From there, you can fine-tune your clothing style. It's also important to point out that Yang (sharp, angular, straight, long) is often described as "masculine" and Yin (rounded, soft, curved, short) as "feminine". This is totally incorrect and only serves to further skew our view of different morphologies. They're just two different femininities.

I've taken the liberty of modernising and softening some of the recommendations, so I suggest you refer to his book Metamorphosis, if you want more authentic information.

A slight deviation is always possible and shouldn't be a cause for concern as long as it doesn't upset the overall balance. If this is a new subject for you, I suggest you read the Glossary of Morphologies before starting.

The Soft Gamine woman is the balance between Yin and Yang, with added Yin (70% Gamine + 30% Romantic).

The facial features are small, pointed or slightly rounded or broad, such as the nose, cheekbones and jaw. The eyes are moderate to large. The lips are moderate to full. The cheeks tend to be fleshy.

The Soft Gamine is generally average height (up to 5.6ft / 1m65) to small. The vertical line is relatively short (distance from shoulder line to knees).

The bone structure is small and rounded, but slightly broad and angular, especially at the shoulders. The bust and hips are rounded with some curves and a defined waist. The arms and legs tend to be slightly fleshy. They are generally short in relation to the height. The hands and feet are small and slightly wide.

When overweight, the body develops more curves and facial features become fleshier.

The Soft Gamine woman doesn't have a very angular body. She doesn't look tall. She doesn't have a straight, narrow silhouette. She does not have broad or very prominent features.

Clothing Lines

The clothing lines should recreate your delicate, angular lines. Clean, rounded lines are preferable. The silhouette should be defined at the waist.

The tops should be delicately fitted. The necklines should be soft, draped and rounded. The jumpers should hug the figure. They should not be too long, ideally reaching to the waist.

The trousers should be straight or form-fitting, with a soft, compact silhouette. The ideal length is at the ankle. They can be shorter if the hem is tapered.

The skirts and dresses should be straight or flared and defined at the waist. The length should be just above the knee or mid-calf.

The jackets and coats should be short or medium-length and fitted at the waist.

Textiles, Colours and Patterns

The fabrics should be moderately thick or light, so they can drape and follow your curves. The textures should be soft, such as smooth knits, silks and velvets.

In general, prefer different colour combinations in your outfits.

Opt for small, delicate patterns, such as rounded shapes and floral motifs.

Accessories

The accessories should be small, delicate and rounded.

The shoes should be fitted and delicate, with small or moderate heels.

The bags should be small and rounded, with neat details.

The belts should be thin and supple, with rounded buckles.

The jewellery should be small, delicate and rounded.

Hairstyles and Make-up

The hairstyles should be neat, rounded and voluminous. The bangs should be relatively short, straight or slightly asymmetrical. Short cuts are ideal, but medium-length hair can also work.

The make-up should be clear and delicate, highlighting the eyes or lips.
