Soft Dramatic

Before getting into the details, it's worth noting that David Kibbe (the creator of the 13 Kibbe types) has repeatedly said that a clothing type doesn't belong to a specific type. Rather, it's how you integrate it into an outfit that makes it appropriate. The aim is not to tell you how you should dress, it's simply a guide, a starting point when you're feeling a little lost. From there, you can fine-tune your clothing style. It's also important to point out that Yang (sharp, angular, straight, long) is often described as "masculine" and Yin (rounded, soft, curved, short) as "feminine". This is totally incorrect and only serves to further skew our view of different morphologies. They're just two different femininities.

I've taken the liberty of modernising and softening some of the recommendations, so I suggest you refer to his book Metamorphosis, if you want more authentic information.

A slight deviation is always possible and shouldn't be a cause for concern as long as it doesn't upset the overall balance. If this is a new subject for you, I suggest you read the Glossary of Morphologies before starting.

The Soft Dramatic woman is a Yang type, with a Yin undercurrent (80% Dramatic + 20% Romantic).

The facial features are prominent or pointed, such as the nose, cheekbones or jawline. The eyes are large and lips are generally full. The skin on the cheeks tend to be taut or slightly soft.

The Soft Dramatic woman is generally average height (from 5.5ft / 1m67) to tall. The vertical line is long (distance from shoulder line to knees).

The body has curves, particularly at the bust and hips. The waist is defined, often creating an hourglass figure. The shoulders are straight and proportionate to the width of the hips. The arms and legs are long and may be fleshy. The hands and feet are long, narrow or wide.

When overweight, the weight usually accumulates in the fleshiest parts of the body, such as the bust, hips, thighs, arms and face.

The Soft Dramatic woman doesn't have a straight, narrow silhouette. She doesn't look petite. Her legs and arms are not short. Her facial features are not all small and thin.

Clothing Lines

The clothing lines should recreate the length, width and clean lines of your silhouette. But a certain softness should be added by using softer shapes and a defined waist. The emphasis should be on the shoulder line with clean edges.

The tops should be delicate but fitted. The necklines can be deep or high. The jumpers should be fitted, with an elongated waist.

The trousers should be long and flowing. Prefer straight, form-fitting or slightly flared cuts.

The skirts and dresses can be straight, tight-fitting or slightly flared at the hips. They can be knee-length or longer. Avoid shapeless dresses.

The jackets and coats should be long with broad, clean shoulders and collars. They may or may not accentuate the waist.

Textiles, Colours and Patterns

The fabrics should be light or moderately thick so they can follow your curves. Prefer fabrics with smooth surfaces, such as silk, velvet and cashmere. Avoid thick, heavy fabrics that are too stiff on you.

In general, prefer monochrome outfits to maintain your long vertical line. You can add accessories in other colours for contrast.

The prints can be delicate, like florals, or more daring, like animal patterns or irregular shapes. Avoid overly dramatic, geometric patterns, such as stripes and checks.

Accessories

The accessories should be large, sophisticated and slightly rounded.

The shoes should be fitted and angular, with tapered toes and heels.

The bags should be large and rigid, with rounded corners.

Prefer wide belts in soft materials, with large, rounded buckles.

The jewellery should be large, geometric and ornate.

Hairstyles and Make-up

The hairstyles should be neat and voluminous, with structured curls. Avoid very geometric hairstyles, which will tend to harden your features.

The make-up should be sophisticated, highlighting the eyes or lips.
